Good news… The phone line is on the way and installation will begin this week.  The fine folks at the Verizon Engineering office have done what they needed to do for the paperwork and now it’s just a matter of days before there is a mile and a quarter long trench up the road to the cabin.  One of their people at the “Orders” desk is claiming that they will be up at the ranch this week to hook up the phone box on the house.  I advised them that not knowing if the line will actually be done by the end of the week it may not be a good idea to do that.  But they insisted that the line will be in.  So I went ahead and ordered my phone service and regardless if they actually finish or not, I will get a bill the first week in November.  How nice of them huh?

The corn is down.  So the harvest for 2008 is done and I believe they did well this year.  I’m hoping that next year I can have the back pasture tilled so I can grow some organic veggies and herbs.  Perhaps some sunflowers as well.

Work is proceeding along just dandy on the house.  My rain water gathering system is working really really well.  Better than I thought.  In a matter of two weeks my 305 gallon water tank was nearly full when I arrived.  It was probably 30 gallons shy of full.  What this means to me is that there is no need for me to have a well drilled or truck water from the spring across the street.

Next project (among many) a wind power generator.

Be happy, be nice and be neighborly.
